Social Skills Resources

Even though people know me as an outgoing, personable, social butterfly, I actually used to be super shy. I even wrote a comic about it! Here are some resources that helped me:

Main Resources

Succeed Socially - If there is only one link you check out on this page, check this one out. It covers everything, from mastering your social anxiety, to figuring out where to even meet people, what to do when spending time with people, and even troubleshoots problems you might be experiencing. One of the most influential articles I had read was on "being nice" to the point of social detriment.

How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie - This is known as the keystone book on the topic of building social skills. While this is an important read to know how to be more likeable and how to keep a conversation going, it is incomplete and it ignores the nuances of human behavior. Check out SucceedSocially's article on this. But still, if you haven't already read it, it's a must-read to start!

Everyone Loves You When You're Dead by Neil Strauss - I read this when I had mastered typical "small talk." I love his ability to pull interesting stories out of people. This is a collection of interviews with celebrities that he did while at Rolling Stone.

Charisma on Command - Amazing Youtube channel that dives into the nuances and art of charisma. It's not as skeezy as it sounds, promise.
